Get Expert Heating Services: No More Chilly Rides – We Bring the Heat!
A damaged heating system is the last thing you want when winter’s just around the corner. On top of that, it can be tricky for the average driver to diagnose what’s wrong with the HVAC.
At Hi-Tech Auto Specialists, we strive to educate our clients about their vehicle’s inner workings. This way, you’ll know exactly what you’re paying for when you bring in your vehicle for a regular heating service or repair.

Core Components of Your Vehicle’s Heating System
Even if your vehicle’s heating and ventilation system is working just fine, it’s important to familiarize yourself with its core parts. When you do face issues, you’ll be able to better diagnose them before bringing them to Hi-Tech Auto Specialists for a quick repair.
Heater Core
Also known as the heat exchanger, the core transfers heat from the engine coolant (antifreeze) to the cabin air filter. You can check for any damage in the core by looking for aluminum or brass tubing with fins.
Blower Motor
This is the part that forces air past the heater core and into your vehicle through the vents. Blower motors are also responsible for even air distribution throughout the cabin.
Heater Hoses
Heater hoses are responsible for heat exchange. They transfer hot coolant from the engine to the heater and vice versa, so your vehicle doesn’t overheat.
Thermostat
The blower motor thermostat is responsible for temperature control in the heating service system. It makes sure the heater is delivering a consistent performance by regulating the temperature of the coolant.
HVAC Control Panel
This is where you or your passengers can adjust the cabin temperature by changing the coolant flow or airflow coming from the heater core. HVAC control panels also tend to have features like dual-zone climate control for a more custom experience.
Heater Control Valve
The heater control valve controls the amount of hot coolant that can enter the heater. Simpler heating systems use this component to maintain an ideal air temperature in the cabin.
Blend Door
Modern vehicles tend to have a blend door, which mixes the hot air with cold air from the outside. It uses sensors and actuators to create the perfect temperature for those in the vehicle.
Radiator
If your vehicle has an HVAC system instead of just heating, it’ll also have a radiator. It works alongside the heater core to regulate the coolant temperature. The coolant first goes through the radiator before reaching the heater core.
Mode Door
The mode door is responsible for the direction of the airflow. It sends hot or cold air to different parts of the vehicle through the defroster vents and floor vents.
Air Inlet Door
When it’s set to let in outside air, this door allows fresh air inside the heating system, which will heat or cool the air before redistributing it. In recirculation mode, the air inlet door does not allow external air intake, so the system can recirculate the air already inside the cabin.
Air Conditioning Compressor
The air conditioning compressor is also part of the HVAC. It compresses the coolant before sending it through the evaporator coil, which dehumidifies the air before pushing it out the vents.
When to Replace Your Automotive Heating System
Ideally, the heating system should last for the vehicle’s entire lifetime. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t face its fair share of damage along the way. You’ll know you need to replace it when it stops heating your cabin, leaks coolant, or has a sickly sweet smell.
These aren’t just inconveniences. A broken heating system can make your vehicle unsafe to drive, especially if the coolant is leaking. If you suspect your vehicle’s heating is damaged, bring it over to us at Hi-Tech Auto Specialists. We’ll perform the necessary tests and let you know whether it can be repaired or needs replacing!
