Transmission Service
Keep Your Gears in Check: Quality Transmission Service
Your transmission ensures power flows from your engine to the wheels at the right time so your vehicle can function. It uses the gear system to adapt the engine power to your driving speeds. It also allows you to back up and put the car in neutral.
While there are some repairs you can put off without causing excessive damage to your vehicle, the transmission system isn’t one of them. Your vehicle can’t run if the transmission system doesn’t work, and ignoring a problem can lead to more costly repairs later. Fortunately, being diligent about transmission maintenance can help your system last longer. Bring your vehicle into so our expert transmission mechanic can perform an inspection.

How Does a Transmission Work?
Your transmission uses a gear system to convert energy from your engine into energy that moves your vehicle’s wheels. Typically, five to six gear sets and trains in the gearbox correspond to different gear rations. The transmission uses the appropriate gear ratio based on the speed and load combination you need.
The clutch disengages the transmission from the engine and allows it to change gears. It engages while the transmission changes gears, releasing afterward.
Types of Transmissions
There are two general types of transmissions, each with their own benefits that may appeal to your personal preferences.
Manual Transmission
With a manual transmission, the driver is responsible for changing gears. The driver uses the clutch pedal to activate the clutch, manually changes the gear, and then disengages the clutch. This type of transmission is also called a stick shift or standard transmission.
Automatic Transmission
An automatic transmission automatically selects and changes gears at the appropriate time with a fluid coupling. The driver doesn’t have to worry about using a clutch or remembering to change gears.
There are several types of automatic transmissions. A continuously various transmission uses a pulley system to change gears and often provides better fuel economy and a smoother ride than a regular automatic transmission.
A dual-clutch transmission is another type that doesn’t require the driver to change gears. It uses two separate clutches for fast and smooth gear changes. You can find these types of transmissions most commonly in high-performance vehicles.
At Hi-Tech Auto Specialists, our certified professionals perform service and repairs on all types of transmissions.
Transmission Maintenance
To keep your transmission running smoothly as long as possible, you should have it serviced regularly. With the right maintenance, your transmission can last for the life of your vehicle. Hi-Tech Auto Specialists transmission maintenance services include:
- Transmission fluid check: Hi-Tech Auto Specialists will regularly check the transmission fluid level and quality as part of your monthly maintenance.
- Transmission fluid change: Have your transmission fluid changed and the transmission filter replaced according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, usually every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, for proper lubrication and to prevent overheating.
- Transmission flush: This is a more thorough cleaning that removes all fluid and contaminants and refills it with new fluid. However, not all manufacturers recommend a flush. Hi-Tech Auto Specialists can provide guidance on whether you need this service or not.
Signs You May Need Transmission Repair
If your transmission does have problems, you may be able to have it repaired instead of having a transmission replacement. Hi-Tech Auto Specialists’s experienced mechanics can perform a transmission diagnosis to let you know if a transmission overhaul or rebuild will work on your vehicle. The following signs could indicate that you need a transmission reconditioning or service:
- Strange Noises: These include grinding, whining, or clunking sounds.
- Shifting Issues: These manifest as difficulty shifting gears, slipping, or delayed engagement.
- Fluid Leaks: You'll know you have a leak if there are puddles of transmission fluid under your vehicle.
- Warning Lights: Don't ignore the transmission warning lights on the dashboard! If this comes on, come to Hi-Tech Auto Specialists immediately and we'll diagnose the issue.
- Burning Smell: Overheating transmission fluid can produce a burning odor. Get this checked immediately.
